Resumo: Rydberg atoms coupled with microwave photons stored in a high Q cavity where shown to be exquisite tools for exploring fundamental quantum features such as ideal projective quantum measurement or decoherence of a Schrödinger cat state. I will present experiments where we push further the degree of control of circular Rydberg atoms for applications to quantum metrology and quantum simulation. Applying quantum control techniques for preparing a Shrödinger cat state of the Rydberg electron we achieved electric and magnetic field sensing with unprecedented sensitivity. By slowing down the atomic motion, we are now able to prepare Schrödinger cat state of a microwave field with large photon number. We also recently demonstrated laser trapping of circular Rydberg atom and I will discuss future applications to quantum simulation of quantum magnetism in spin chains and lattices.
